The Four Stages of Learning

Paul Zane Pilzer, a leading economist, predicts that nearly half of the jobs people will have in the next five years haven't even been invented yet. Today, over 90% of the jobs in the U.S. weren't in existence when most of us were born.

What that tells me is that understanding the learning process is a major key to our future success. There are four stages of learning anything.

* Unconscious Incompetence This is when you don't know that you don't know how to do something. For instance, a young child isn't aware that he doesn't know how to drive a car.

* Conscious Incompetence In the second stage, you become aware you don't know how to do something. You know that you don't know. This awareness is critical. Attempting to drive a car without knowing how to drive a car could prove fatal.

* Conscious Competence The third stage is when we know how to do something, but it requires we be very much aware of what we're doing.

To continue with our example, when you first learn how to drive a car, you must concentrate on blending the power, easing out the clutch, watching traffic and the many other skills that are part of operating an automobile.

* Unconscious Competence This is when you've reached a level of competency, which requires little or no thought. The skills are ingrained so deeply that you can talk, adjust the radio, open the window and think about your next presentation-all while orchestrating the direction, speed and performance of the car.

As we progress through the new millennium, being able to learn new skills and quickly access information will be critical to our success. Knowing how to learn will become one of our greatest assets.

Parents who are concerned about their children's ability to get into college are interested in seeing what options Toronto private schools have to offer. One of the confusing items surrounding private school in Toronto is the difference between a private school and a preparatory school. While many private schools are also considered prep schools, not all of them qualify for this label.

What is a Preparatory School

A preparatory school is a private school, independent of the Toronto public school system, that is designed to get students ready for college. Every aspect of the school is designed for college prep. Academics are emphasized more than extra-curricular activities, although extra-curriculars are available. This type of Toronto independent school typically has low student-to-teacher ratios. Because of this, the teachers are able to give the students more attention than they would likely receive in a public school. This, in theory, will give the students a better instructional environment.

Some prep schools are also boarding schools. Both local and out-of-town students can take advantage of the boarding option. By living at school, students are able to focus more on their academics without the distractions of home. While getting an education that prepares the child for college is important, it is just as important to prepare a child for real life, because not all students will attend college, no matter how well intentioned the parents and the school are.

Once you find a school that has excellent success reports combined with a well-rounded education, you have probably found the right school. Basic Principles of Grammar for Language Students

Learning a second language like Spanish often requires a review of some basic grammatical terms. Every language has ways of dealing with the parts of speech such as nouns, verbs, adjective, adverbs, direct objects and prepositions. If you've been out of school for a few years, you might need to review these terms.

A noun is word that names a person, place, thing, animal or idea, such as CAT, JOHN, DALLAS, FLORIDA. Nouns come in number, either singular (one) or plural (multiples). CAT is singular, but CATS is plural.

Almost every world language, except English, has two or three genders for nouns: masculine, feminine, and occassionally neteur. For example, in Spanish one root word can represent two different English words. For example, CHICO menas boy, and CHICA means girl. Another way to look at this word is that it means child, where a male-child is obviously a boy, and female-child is obviously a girl.

An adjective is a word that qualifies a noun, for example, not just the noun CAT, but the BIG Cat, not just BOY, but the SMART BOY. In languagess where nouns have gender, the noun and adjective have to agree in number and gender. For example, in Spanish: EL CHICO ALTO (the tall boy) and LOS CHICOS ALTOS (the tall boys).

Verbs are a class of words used to show the performance of an action (do, throw, run), existence (be), possession (have), or state (know, love) of a subject. To put it simply a verb shows what something or someone does; for example: The boy THROWS the ball. The tiger EATS the food. Verbs can further be qualified by adverbs: The boy SKILFULLY throws the ball. The tiger QUICKLY eats the food. Verbs are "conjugated", often with suffixes and sometimes with prefixes. For example, in English, we say "I eat" but in the past tense "I ate" or "I have eaten".

The subject of the sentence is the item doing the action. The DOG bit me. The MAN dropped the ball. The direct object is the action that receives the action of the verb: He lectured US on the values of studying. The dog bit THE CHILD. He dropped THE CHAIR. A transitive verbs usually require a direct object, and an intranstive verb cannot. "The plant thrived" is intransitive. "The child broke" sounds like an incomplete sentence because the word "Broke" is transitive. Usually, you would say "The child broke the glass" (adding a direct object to complete the thought).

A preposition introduces a prepositional clause. Common prepositions include: in, on, over, under, with, for, against. Example: I put the chair ON THE FLOOR. He put the ball IN THE HOUSE. I went WITH THE CHILDREN. It often adds the flavor to where or with whom the verb happens.

A sentence can be a declarative (tells you something), an interrogative (a question), or an imperative (an order). An interrogative is just another word for a question, and an imperative means a command or an order. An example imperative is: TAKE out the trash. PUT on your clothes.

MANILA, Philippines—Applications are now open for the 2010 Australian Leadership Awards Scholarships, open to current and emerging leaders in the Asia-Pacific region, Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Rod Smith said.
“An ALA Scholarship is a significant opportunity for high achievers in the Philippines to extend their education, strengthen their leadership skills, build networks, and develop strategies to address the development challenges we share,” he said.
The ALA Scholarships, which provide funding for study at Masters and Doctorate levels in Australia’s leading education institutions, is one of the Australian government scholarship programs managed by the Australian Agency for International Development, AusAID.
Around 150 Scholarships are being offered for students from countries within the region to study at Australian universities in 2010, including candidates from the Philippines. Scholars will be selected on merit from a highly competitive regional pool on the basis of demonstrated leadership qualities and academic achievement.
Study programs must relate to AusAID’s priority areas of focus, which include disability, economic growth, education, environment, food security, gender, governance, health, human rights, infrastructure, regional stability, rural development, and water and sanitation.
Students at Australian universities are taught by academics recognized internationally for quality research. Australia’s major universities are consistently ranked among the top 50 in the world by the Times Higher Education London and make major and world-leading contributions to international research projects and initiatives.

Dating an Older Woman

There are many people involved with older or younger people than themselves. Most of the time if you are dating someone 5 years older and up then you are considered to be dating someone much older than yourself. These kind of relationships have been going on since the very beginning. It is very common to see a younger woman with an older man, noone is surprised by that. Most of the time, having a younger woman is considered to be a trophy for an older man, and most men like to be recognized for their accomplishments.

Younger wives or girlfriends are often considered as trophies by their peers. If they are a big time businessman, it really helps with their stamina and self security. It is assumed that they (the older person) must have a lot of stamina to "keep up" with their younger partner. There may also be a sense that the younger person will stay with the older person longer and help take care of them in their older years.

Something that most have not heard of as late is older women dating younger women. This has become a big trend of late and is rapidly going up. These females are often called cougars for their activities. Men are often attracted to older women because they are basically "lower maintance" than their younger female counterparts. They have a lot more going on in their lives, they have learned from their mistakes that the younger generation are just now making. They also know what they want and how they are going to get it.

Older women usually know exactly what they want and how to get it as mentioned before. They are financially successful and have learn from all the mistakes they have made in their younger years. They work out and are health conscious. They are over the partying, being wild, stage of their life and are now much more responsible. They know how to make it in the real world and have the tools to help them get through it.

Not everything is perfect in these May to December relationships. They have problems similiar to everyone's else but some of the problems are a little different. For example, there may be such a generational gap that they cannot overcome it. They may be limited on what they talk about and the things they do. What if the younger person wants to bicycle but the cougar wants to have no part of it? There could be some physical reasons why she would not want to do that. Cheating is also common in May to December relationships, it is not surprising considering the differences that are there.

People that are in these kinds of relationships often are victims of the other person cheating. This may be because of the generational differences, it may also be because the other person just does not understand them or there is no physical connection any longer. The statistics on these kind of relationships are sketchy at best, but infedelity does happen and it is thought to happen at a much higher rate. If you suspect cheating, do your homework and get to the bottom of it. If you find a number in their pocket or a name in their briefcase, use one of the many people and telephone number lookup sites on the internet to do some research on your partner. 36 off to Japan on scholarship

KUALA LUMPUR: Thirty-six students will leave for Japan today to further their studies under the Japanese Government Scholarship programme.
Some 1,400 students have so far benefited from the scholarship.Japan ambassador to Malaysia Masahiko Horie said since the scholarship was established, the Japanese government received thousands of applications every year but only the best applicants were selected.One of those selected, 25-year-old Intan Nadrah Zulkamar, said "As the competition was stiff, I did not expect to get the scholarship. "I am happy to be part of the group as it has always been my dream to study in Japan."
She will be pursuing her postgraduate studies in environmental health in the University of Tokyo.Coming from an average family, Tey Kuan Shuang, 25, has made his parents Foo Nyot Chan and Tey King Tong proud by being the first in the family to study overseas. "I feel delighted and honoured to be one of the recipients. "I chose Japan with the hope of doing my research in mechanical engineering technology," said Kuan Shuang.Like Kuan Shuang, Suhaila Badrolhisham, 31, who hails from Klang, not only made her parents happy but also followed the line of her siblings' outstanding academic performance. Suhaila would be pursuing her postgraduate studies in electrical engineering."It is no surprise for her to receive the scholarship as she has been an excellent student since school. "In fact, she did her undergraduate study abroad as well," said Suhaila's proud father, Badrolhisham Abdul Rahman, 61.Five of these students will be doing their undergraduate studies and 31 will pursue postgraduate courses.

Four Bruneian receive Japanese scholarships

The Government of Japan offers a variety of scholarship programmes to Bruneian youths, including postgraduate research and technology studies courses. This year, four students will travel to Japan to embark on their studies on April 1.
Andree Asmara bin Hj Abidin will study Special Needs Education at Hiroshima University as a Masters student under AYF (Asian Youth Fellowship) Programme.
Ms Chaw Li Ling will study Medical Science at Tohoku University as a Masters student and Ms Tan Caillie will study at Department of Economics System at Kyushu University, after studying Japanese language for six months.
Nur Amalina Nadila binti Ibrahim will take a three-year course at Oita National College of Technology after taking one-year intensive Japanese language course at Tokyo Japanese Education Centre.
For those interested in the Japanese Government Scholarship Programmes, application forms for the year 2010 scholarships (postgraduate research courses, undergraduate courses, college of technology and professional training college) will be available from mid-April 2009.
The application period is from April to the middle of June and successful applicants will depart for Japan in April 2010.

Often students have bad study skills. While there are many reasons for this lack in knowing how to negotiate learning, one of the key reasons can be failure they've had and their perspective about it. People experience failure routinely, yet whether small or large, most adults can move past disappointment and go forward. This is not always true of students. Failure in school can hinder their progress and can obscure even the best study skills put before them. Failure can present a hindrance to learning and can cause even the best students to adopt bad study skills or none at all. Adolescents and older teens might not realize that people often have to fail to succeed, and that information gained in failing will give them the tools to go forward.

One of the things that failure can bring is the determination to improve. If students can understand this they will be open to receiving new learning techniques. Comprehending that they learn best when they know how they learn, young people can get past the disappointment of failure. Discovering how our brain intakes information depends on three key learning techniques. Deciding what is our best learning style is the first one. Finding whether our focus is external or internal comes next. Knowing the exact areas where we are already smart is the final thing to determine.

Understanding our specific learning styles, focus, and smart areas isn't easy. Summer camps for kids and teens highlight academics and can help by showing students how to chart what kind of learner they are and how to use that knowledge to improve their study skills. When students get specific help, it is easier to guide them into an accurate view of their individual personal learning styles. Learning styles differ from person to person. Visual learners gain information by seeing things. Auditory learners process information by hearing. Moving or touching things indicates a kinesthetic learner.

After they identify how they are learning, students need to understand personal focus. It's important for teens to know in what situation they will focus the best. An easy test is to ask them whether they learn better with others around them or alone. Learning techniques, such as these, are multifaceted and usually are only made clear when a student can concentrate on this information without distraction. This can happen in summertime at academic camps, which provide a concentrated course that produces multiple changes in a teen's confidence, study skills, and learning ability.

The list of learning techniques is not complete until students grasp the fact that all of them are smart, but display it in their own individual way. How people display they are smart can actually be measured in eight separate ways. Spatial intelligence can be found in those who are good at putting puzzles together. Linguistically smart people are those who are good at story telling and jokes. Empathy toward other people's opinions and feelings displays an aptitude for interpersonal skills. Musical intelligence can be measured if a person plays a musical instrument. People who look for patterns in the stars are nature smart. Bodily smart means a person is a good actor, mimicker, and role-player. Those who are gifted in the intrapersonal area spend time alone thinking things through. Finally, mathematically talented people figure out the reasons for things.

Because kids and teens often recoil after a failure, it is difficult to get them to want to focus on their studies and to understand they can be successful. When students are empowered by different learning techniques, they are enabled to go forward. Their study skills are sharpened and that's when a change takes place - often the change both they and their parents were hoping would happen.

Whether your life is running smoothly or you face daily crises; you are happy in your career or looking for a change; your relationships are happy or there doesn't seem to be anyone for you, maybe a coach is in your future. Having a coach means youd have somebody in your life to get you to do the things you don't want to do so you can get to where you want to be.

And this is true even if your world looks to be working already. The fact is, anybody could benefit through employing a life coach. Ask yourself, "Am I willing, ready and able to change my life to get the results that I desire?" If you replied yes to each of the three parts, your time is now.

Coaching isn't a new profession. Athletes, actors and actresses, and musicians have engaged them for years. Executive coaches have been coaching in big companies for a long time - working with top management to make them more efficient managers.

There are three main things that make this new way of coaching different:

One - personal and professional coaching is possible for anybody who wants it. You decide you are prepared to change and that you want a coach. It is no longer decided by your boss or superior when the time is right.

2) Coaching is affordable. Basic fees for a individual coach can be handled in just about any budget, ranging from $200 to $500 per month. Group coaching can frequently be found for less.

3) Simplicity is key to the coaching relationship. Most coaching is done by telephone so scheduling is easy. If you have access to a phone, you can have a coach. With long distance being so affordable these days (often free), the cost for calls is minimal.

People hire a coach for many reasons. The one thread that people who hire coaches have in common is a strong desire to change something in their own life to create a future of their choosing.

When you resolve to hire a coach, though, don't merely hire the first one you meet. Do your homework. Make certain your coach has had the proper training in the skills of coaching from an recognized coach training school. Interview multiple coaches and get a feel for who they are and whether they have the experience to be effective coach for you.

Finally, use your gut. Trust your own instincts when it comes to making your choice. Notice how you feel when youre in conversation with each coach. The right coach for you will feel exactly right. Bear in mind, too, that at different times in your life, different coaches may be more right for you.

It is often difficult as a parent to watch a child make a choice that could possibly be detrimental to his or her future. We can only hope that their limited life experiences and education will train them for real world situations, but there is no absolute guarantee. The real world is not always black and white, and as adults, we know that kids and teens will encounter many forks in the road that will put that experience and education to the test.

We anticipate that the relationships they form with others in high school will be lasting and worthwhile, and college will set the stage for their entry into true adulthood. They will become the sum of their experiences, and when they finally take that first step into the real world, it is our hope that they will have a wealth of experience and education to fall back on to help them navigate the ever complicated maze of business and personal success.

But will these experiences be enough to guide them to success? While many teens and young adults will make it through life's obstacles without experiencing any disasters, others will falter through a series of missteps and mistakes that could potentially have a huge impact on their futures. Thai university to offer scholarships to Myanmar students

The Rangsit University of Thailand will hold a seminar in Yangon along with its university entrance examination to select Myanmar students who deserve scholarships, the local weekly Voice reported Sunday.
The seminar will take place on March 21 at the Park royal Hotel and two scholarships will be awarded each for five majoring subjects -- International Business, Information and Communication Technology, Communication Arts, Philosophy, Politics and Economics and International Hospitality Management.
The Rangsit University is the fifth leading university in Thailand having interchange programs with 50 universities from European, American and Asian countries which the scholarship winning students can select for their further study, the report said.
Meanwhile, the New Zealand government will also provide scholarships to pre-graduate Myanmar university students to help develop the country's human resources, an earlier report said.
The subjects to be studied in New Zealand cover basic education and health, administration, trade and development, and prevention of dispute and peace building.
In recent years, other countries such as Singapore, South Korea and China have also extended different scholarships to Myanmar students for the country's human resources development. These scholarship sponsoring institutions include Singapore's PSB Academy and TMC Education Group, South Korea's Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and National Institute For International Education (NIED) and China's Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU).
The study subjects are respectively linked with the fields of journalism, mass communications, public relations, accounting and finance, international business management and marketing, logistics management, e-business and e-commerce, construction management and property, and hospitality and tourism.

The second reality is that if you are anywhere near the statistical profile of a student with a chance of admission to an Ivy, you have no reason to feel sorry for yourself. You may not get into an Ivy, but you should have great college choices.

So, how do you maximize your chances for admission to an Ivy or other highly competitive college? First, take the most challenging high school courses available to you. And, if you can take a few college courses while concurrently enrolled in high school, you might want to do so, especially if you run out of genuinely difficult high school courses.

Take the ACT and SAT as early as possible; perhaps even as a high school freshman, to get the experience and receive a profile which lets you know how your scores stack up comparatively. Begin doing some test prep work (on your own or with a tutor or test prep organization) early in your junior year of high school.

Make yourself what used to be called a "well rounded" person; it's good for you and good for your candidacy. Join clubs or organizations in which you have genuine interest. I repeat, genuine interest. Accept positions of leadership if they are available.

A good or bad essay can be an important "tip" factor for you. And, it's your best opportunity to tell the admissions committee who you are. Don't waste it.

Early decision may improve your chances. Consider it carefully.

Choose carefully the teachers you ask for recommendations. Be as certain as possible that they will recommend you with enthusiasm.

Anything you can do to help others and/or accelerate your personal growth can only help you as a person, and make you at least a marginally more attractive applicant.

The Ivies, and other highly selective colleges, are after bright, motivated, high-achievers. In addition, they seek diversity and students whose backround, accomplishment, and talents indicate their potential to be significant contributors to the campus community.

6. Sweeten the Pot - Include samples for review or the access to interviews. Get your product into their hands. Let them taste, wear, listen, watch, feel or use your product or service. Do you have access to an expert or celebrity? Make sure to include these opportunities in your press release.
7. Necessities - Make sure to include the following: Your contact Information, including email, as well as information about the organization, or its history. It is also important to include a link to your website, if applicable.

Here, I'd like to talk about what you can do when you're a freshman or sophomore. When you have a lot of time to plan and work hard. My time as an Admissions Officer really showed me the difference between those that plan ahead, and those that don't make the grade.

1) Make sure you have a good GPA and SAT score. Take every AP-level class and test that you can - and get 4s and 5s. Princeton expects you to challenge yourself at the highest academic levels, over and over

2) Participate in several clubs, and focus on leadership. But don't just be President - do unique, new things with the clubs (holding conferences, partnering with area schools, entering competitions, etc)

3) Sports and music are helpful - they show specific passions and interests

4) You need to think about NATIONAL and/or INTERNATIONAL awards, prizes, and scholarships to distinguish yourself in this competitive environment. Admissions is simply too competitive to only win local or state honors

Make sure your accomplishments and experiences tell a STORY ABOUT YOUR LIFE. Admissions committees want to know that you have clear interests, clear goals in life, and all those things are reflected by your essays, recs, and experiences

Rejections happen because applicants do a little of everything, and nothing truly well. They're not DISTINCTIVE in anything they do - and they don't get into Harvard or Stanford because they don't have a story.

Always value depth of success over breadth.

Follow this advice, and you'll have a great shot. Please don't forget - 50% of your success is hard work. The other 50% is crafting the right application, so don't forget about TELLING A STORY.

What You Need To Know To Get A College Grant

College students are famous for being the most poor of all social classes- but they get by nevertheless. Helping them do so is the government, who passes along grants their way to help finance their classes, living quarters, books, and food. Keep in mind that it will take work to get such grants, as they will certainly not come to you by themselves.

Grants require a massive amount of information in order to obtain. In many cases, it will require that a student has filed for their taxes and had a valid tax return in order to complete a grant application. Because of this, it's recommended that students wait until they file their taxes before filing for student aid. Some organizations will require specific tax information on both them and their parents. Some specific grants may also require other types of information, although easier found, such as test scores or merits.

As far as government grants go, the Pell grant is the easiest to obtain. This grant in particular is a favorite among grants, since it doesn't have to be repaid like some others. There are certain restrictions, and total value is determined by the information sent to the government. Rules of the grant should be learned, such as the statute that says only one Pell grant is available per student per year, no matter how many colleges are attended.

The majority of grant opportunities are going to come from filling out a FAFSA. This application is required by some institutions before even gaining entry into college, so it's necessary no matter what the financial need is of the student. It usually takes an hour or two to fill out, and is best filled out after filing taxes.

Also consider obtaining grants through the university, in which doing a work-study is possible. A work study program allows the student to take a job on at the university, in which will pay for part of the tuition for the given semester or year. Often times the university will get compensation from the government in offering such programs, so they like to do so when possible.

If you do decide to go for a loan, be sure that you will have the means of paying it back by the time college is said and done. Most loans available to college students will have to be paid on as soon as the student leaves college. If one doesn't obtain a job almost immediately, it'll be tough to pay the bills each month.

Don't Think about a Purple Elephant

I wanted to comment on something I've seen people doing recently.

Whenever you tell people not to do or think something, they have to go inside their head and make a representation of it before they can negate it. Even if they decide not to do it as you recommend, they'll still have experienced whatever it was like to make that picture, sound, feeling, etc.

You may have heard some people say that the subconscious doens't process the negative part of messages. It goes about bringing into existance whatever you focus on even if you're trying not to think about it.

Whenever you find yourself telling people what you don't want, pause a moment. Figure out what you do want and say that instead. That ususally gives you the same logical argument without encouraging them to make a representation you don't want them to have.

People don't consider the images they're putting into people's heads. A friend was recently heating some wax and facitiously said not to eat it. My response was, "I was just about to, I'm glad you said something." That kind of response lets people imagine the silliness of their statements.

A problem/solution approach to persuasion works too. You'll have to test each method to know which converts better for your particular situation.

So when you're editing your copy, make sure to filter for negations and see if there's something else you'd prefer your reader to be thinking about.

You can find solar powered yard lights in a variety of pleasing designs and you can install theme yourself without the assistance of an electrician. Solar powered holiday lights are also available, letting you save money on your electric bill while dressing up your home for the holidays.

Another great way to save money while doing something to live greener is to use rechargeable batteries - these have greatly improved in recent years and are long lasting, easy too use and of course save money as well. When the batteries are finally used up and cannot take another charge, they may be recycled at almost any hardware store.

It's actually pretty easy to live a greener lifestyle. You can benefit the environment and your pocketbook at the same time. You may soon find yourself looking for more ways to add a little more green to your life.

You can buy organically grown foods or grow your own if you live where this is possible. You will be able to eat fresh food and meat daily, full of nutrients, and free from chemicals and the bad effects they can cause. This will greatly improve your health and also help the environment.

There are many things you can do to cut down on driving. Try to do everything in one trip if possible. You will save money, cut down on traffic, and reduce emissions into the environment. Driving is stressful and stress is not good for you so less driving means less stress. Ride with someone or use public transportation if you can. You can ride a bike or walk in some cases and it will also give you some healthy exercise.

Composting your food scraps can save you money in garbage waste and provide you with great soil next season for your own garden. It also keeps a lot of good stuff out of the landfills. Just keep adding your fruit and vegetable wastes, egg shells, coffee grounds, and grains to the compost pile. You can add your raked leaves and lawn clippings as well. Don't add meat or bones... they will attract insects like flies and will take longer to compost. Water the compost down once in awhile to get the enzymes activated. Come spring, you'll have some nice compost soil to add to your own vegetable garden for more healthy eating.

There is a lot you can do in your home to get more green. Open up the curtains and let the light in. Natural light is the best light to see by and you can avoid using energy by leaving your lights off more. Start using the new compact fluorescent light bulbs and stop wasting money and energy on the standard bulbs. These bulbs will last much longer and use less energy. You will love not having to change light bulbs all the time.

The little things add up, start recycling your aluminum cans and anything else you can. Not only will you help the earth to be greener, you will get a little cash too. Take your own bags to the store when you shop, you will have less trash and the store may even give you a few cents for doing it. Try to buy things with less plastic packaging if possible. You will help your air to be cleaner to breath by doing these things.

It's not that hard to live a greener life. You will feel much better about yourself and you will also feel better because you are eating more healthy foods. A green life means a longer life, give it a try and see the difference for yourself.

ALL he wanted to do was to upgrade himself.
Having done badly in his O levels in 1976, Michael decided to retake one O-level subject, mathematics, some 32 years later. He wanted to improve his credentials.
The 49-year-old, who didn't want to give his full name, paid $56 to attend a one-year part-time course in O-level maths in ITE Bishan last year. That amount covered his course fees and once-a-week lessons.
Unfortunately, Michael scored aD7in his examination, only a small improvement from the E8 he scored for the same subject in 1976.
Last Saturday, this dejected administrator, who took a diploma in Business Administration from a private school in 1992, returned to ITE Bishan to register for the same course once again.
He was shocked to find out that he now has to pay $479 to do so - some 81/2 times the amount paid the first time.
The new fees for repeat courses came into effect this year.
Previously, it would have cost Michael just $56 to repeat the course, the same as for those taking it for the first time.
Said Michael: 'I thought that $56 for a course is okay but to pay so much just to repeat it is quite ridiculous.
'And I felt humiliated when an ITE staff member said, 'Well, you should have tried better, then you wouldn't have had to repeat'.
'I felt so ashamed. If I am so bright, I wouldn't be here re-taking my O-level subjects, right?'
This repeat fee does not include an examination fee, which cost Michael $140 last year.
He said that he felt helpless, because he liked the General Education (GE)programme offered by ITE. It provides opportunities for adults to acquire academic qualifications up to the GCE N and O levels on a part-time basis.
It offers courses from Secondary 1 Normal onwards and includes subjects such as English, mathematics and science.
The course fee per subject starts from $51. But from this year, the cost to repeat a subject is $407 to $479, according to the ITE website.
Said Michael: 'It's kind of sad. It's either I pay up or I don't repeat the course. But I figured that I could always study on my own, which is going to be a challenge.
'The Government is encouraging people like me to upgrade ourselves. But on the other hand, why is there a need to increase the fee by so much'
'Shouldn't these course fees be subsidised?'

He said that he managed to get only two O-level passes in 1976 - a B4 in English and a C6 in technical drawing.
He said: 'I was quite playful when I was young. And during those days, even if you don't do well in your O levels, it was still considered quite okay. We could still get a job and work.
'It was during the last few years that there were more of such courses and I had more time to think about upgrading myself. I thought it would be good if I can make use of the time to improve on my mathematics.'
Michael, who is married with no children, had thought of taking two more O-level subjects this year - science and English - to improve on his past scores. But he has decided against it, just in case he fails the subjects again and has to pay more money to repeat them.
Another mature student, nurse Anita Devi, 32, said she too had to pay $479 to repeat her O-levels mathematics this year.
A Singaporean like Michael, she had scored F9 for her O-level English, mathematics and science last year. The mother of three had paid $102 per subject under the GE programme last year.
The course fees vary depending on the student's age, qualification and citizenship.
'I failed all three subjects because I didn't put in much effort. I was doing shift work and I had to take care of my three children. It was challenging trying to juggle all that,' she said.
Madam Anita is married with three sons, aged 15, 14and 13.
'Can't afford'
She's going to retake only her mathematics because she said she can't afford to pay for all three repeat courses.
She said: 'Times are so bad, maybe some things can be changed. I have other expenses. The ITE could've given some rebates or moderated the increase. But this is too much of a jump.
'How about those who are not working and wish to retake? It's so expensive.'
When contacted, ITE said this policy on repeat modules took effect for intakes after April 2007. It was part of the Government's review on funding for part-time courses offered by ITE and the polytechnics. Said an ITE spokesman: 'The rationale behind this review of funding is to optimise the use of the high subsidies (of up to 90 per cent of course fees) from public funds to benefit as many Singapore citizens and PRs as possible.'
ITE's centre supervisors will explain the various financial assistance schemes available for students who are affected by the policy and who require financial assistance.
And this policy does not affect part-time students who withdraw from the module owing to situations like medical reasons or official work.
ITE is also offering shorter and more affordable revision courses as an alternative to the GE Programme for repeat students.

Thirty or forty years ago, it was not unusual for competitive colleges, universities and graduate schools to require all applicants to complete an interview with a staff member (or alumni volunteer).

Today, far fewer institutions mandate an interview, but a significant number do. And, although other institutions do not use the word "interview", they may evaluate applicants after meeting with them. In fact, at some institutions, even current students who come into contact with applicants may formally or informally record their opinions of them.

You would be well advised to assume that anything you say to an institutional representative may influence your admission decision. Here are ten ways to help yourself.

1. Never indicate that a college or university is a back up choice. Institutions are far more likely to admit a student who is expected to enroll if admitted.

2. Do not express doubt about wanting to continue your education.

3. Dress well for all meetings with institutional representatives. If you think dress does not matter, you are wrong.

4. Research the institutions to which you are applying. Never ask a question about a college or university which you could have found an answer to in a few minutes on the institution's website; it will make you appear lazy and/or not very interested.

5. Do not say anything to a student tour guide, discussion leader or interviewer you would not say to the Dean of Admissions.

6. Send personalized thank you notes to the key people you meet. Take the time to write a good note; not merely a cookie cutter one.

7. Feel free to bring immediate family members with you on campus visits. But, be sure they understand that they should not try to "sell" you or speak for you. There are few things admissions personnel or faculty find more objectionable.

8. Have at least one intelligent question prepared for each person with whom you meet.

FFELs cover both subsidized and unsubsidized loans, and an FFEL consolidation loan can wrap both of a borrower's federal loans into a single manageable package. FFEL consolidation programs offer extended repayment terms and fixed rates, and in some cases even those who have been in default in the past can qualify. If you have any federal education debt an FFEL consolidation loan should be the first place you look.

Private consolidation loans can package all of your non-federal loans into a single easy to make payment often with extended terms to lower the monthly bite even more (Though at the price of a higher overall cost.) Private and federal loans cannot generally be consolidated into the same package due to the variance in interest rates between them. Private loan interest rates are based on the borrower's credit rating so if your credit rating has improved since graduation - through a better job, etc. - they may be a good option.

Many parents use the PLUS loan program to borrow for the children's education. PLUS loans can be consolidated using a PLUS consolidation program much which offers similar benefits and potential pitfalls of FFEL and private consolidation - fixed rates, and lower payments spread over a longer term. Plus loan consolidations are great for some people but parents need to take a good look at all of their options before consolidating.

Even if none of the traditional consolidation methods work for your situation, there are still alternatives to help students get started on the right foot towards financial solvency. Some people take out second mortgages on their home and use the money to pay off all of their loans. ( An added benefit of this method is that you may be able to retain some of the tax benefits of regular consolidations) Private personal loans from family members can also help those with poor credit, and some companies offer tuition reimbursement programs which may help off set up to 100% of your education costs.

New technologies have come to the lending world where the idea of peer-to-peer programs and micro-financing has taken root. Peer to peer financing allows the borrower to present a request for funding to a group of potential "micro-investors" who then bid on the loan by offering different rates and terms. Once a deal is struck the network services the loan, ensures payments are made and the necessary paperwork is taken care of. For borrowers with needs outside the comfort zone of traditional banks a P2P loan may help them get started down the path to getting their loans paid off.

Making the transition from school life to your career is a road with more than its share of lessons and challenges. First and most important is accreditation. If an online college or university is not accredited by an agency approved by the U.S. Department of Education it should be eliminated from consideration immediately.

Next is the question of majors? Which colleges offer the major in which you are interested? How strong are their programs? Do they offer concentrations or specialties of interest to you? What are the backgrounds of faculty? All are questions worth asking.

Finances, of course, are important to most people. But, asking only about tuition does not result in a full picture. Be sure to find out about the availability of scholarships, student loans, grants and tuition installment options. All can play a role in making an institution affordable.

If you have done prior college coursework, or if you have experience for which you might be granted college credit, ask about colleges' credit transfer policies. Specifically, be sure you understand what you must do to determine which transfer credits you might receive and the number of such credits which might be applied to your degree. In addition, ask if you can be informed, in writing, which credits will be accepted before you enroll.

You also need to ask about student services. Start with financial aid counseling. Then find out if online tutoring is available. Will you be able to email professors if you have a question or problem? Will you be able to confer with classmates? Be sure to ask. And, find out about job placement and any other services important to you.

Spend some quiet time thinking about your educational and career goals. Add a few questions to those above. Then, start getting answers by reading and by speaking with admissions representatives. As your questions are answered it will be easier for you to eliminate some options and move others to the top of your list.

The necessary answers are easy to find once you first find the right questions. The good news is that you now have all the information you need to make a good college choice.

To ensure the best results for the material you are going to be reading you must make sure the conditions around you are right before you begin. Determine exactly what you need to be able to read properly; textbooks, research material, and a hi-lighter? Remove or unplug: - Magazines, unless being used as a part of what you are going to read. - TV (except for educational programs). Stereo, radio will cause varied distractions. Turn them off. - Brothers, sisters, friends, etc. are in the way when you are reading. - Mate, spouse, lover. They easily can dissuade you from reading. - Food can break your concentration and reading pattems. - Alcohol/drugs - don't even go there. Being stoned and studying is a sure fire failure. - Cigarettes fog your thinking abilities. Nicotine is a drug. - Marijuana - don't go there either. A foggy brain is useless in an exam. - Take the phone off the hook. Put out the dog or cat. - Create a quiet reading/study space. You might want music playing; use soft, classical, meditation oriental or other forms of relaxing music. Play it very softly. This sounds pretty extreme; however, modify it for pleasure reading, early morning newspapers, or magazines.

Writing Admissions Essays; How to do it right.

Although completion of a challenging curriculum, high school grade point average, and ACT or SAT scores are most important to admissions committees, the quality of a student's essay may carry fairly substantial weight in determing whether he/she is offered or denied admission. And, as a general rule, the more selective the college, the more important the essay.

In fact, some colleges use essays merely to ensure that applicants can write acceptably. The Harvard's, Yale's, and Princeton's of the world may view essays with far more discerning eyes.

Except in highly unusual circumstances, an essay will not compensate for failure to complete a rigorous college prep program or for grades significantly below the majority of applicants. And, in most instances, statements which offer excuses for below potential academic performance will not be well received. Neither will statements promising that you will earn a 4.0 grade point average, someday become an outstanding alumnus, or lead the football to four record breaking seasons. Save your excuses and grandiose self-assessment for someone who cares, or at least someone who hasn't heard it all before.

Think of the essays as a great opportunity...a great opportunity not to be wasted. Make the most of it by:

1. Spend as much time, thought, and energy as it takes to ensure that your essays reflect your best work. Have them reviewed by at least two people who write well, and by your counselor.

2. Offering honest insight about yourself. Do not be afraid to be self-effacing...admissions committees often find it very refreshing.

3. Presenting your accomplishments without conceit.

4. Avoiding self-serving cliches about patriotism, family, God, or service to humanity.

It is not necessary to go for the home run. Just remember the tips listed above and a few of the basics; write clearly and thoughtfully, be honest, demonstrate insight, and know your audience.

Beware of Scholarship Scams

It happens every year. High school seniors and their parents are defrauded by scholarship scammers; people who promise to help them land scholarships and financial aid they wouldn't otherwise receive.

Estimates vary, but it seems likely that these crooks...and that is an appropriate word...collect in excess of $100 million annually from unsuspecting families.

They do it by playing on the fears of families who are scared by the cost of college and have not been well educated on all the legitimate help available to them.

It all starts with a letter from a company with a name that makes it sound like a benign organization whose mission is to assist students and their families.

The letter doesn't look like typical junk mail. The logo often looks like that of an Ivy League college, and the letterhead and paper are generally on fairly high quality paper. Like the con men behind them, the promotional materials look credible.

In nearly all the letters they send, the con men begin by reinforcing families' fears about their ability to meet college costs.

Once they have stated the problem...paying for college...they assure you they can provide the solution. They may offer to "teach you the secrets of financial aid", "locate millions of dollars in unused scholarships", or otherwise help you take advantage of their special expertise.

The letters are not always the same, but one element is. They invite you to come to a hotel function room or other reasonably large venue to learn more about financial aid and scholarships, at no cost. Sounds like a no-brainer, right? If you think so, think again.

The gathering, whatever it is called, is a well rehearsed sales pitch. The gist...you need money, we can help you get it. And, nowhere do you get the one piece of information you need most...everything of value these people can offer you is available elsewhere, for free.

The group pitch is followed by individual meetings during which families are pressured to immediately pay for the services offered. Many yield to the pressure, writing checks in excess of $1,000 for a worthless set of services.

Don't be the victim of financial aid con men (and women). There are lots of good websites offering free scholarship searches and financial aid advice. And, high school counselors and college financial aid counselors will gladly give you advice and answer your questions. There is no need to turn elsewhere.

Ignore your competition. Yup, you heard me right.

You see there is this idea out there that you have to compete to get ahead; that competing will move you ahead in life, and that's just not the truth.

You see, when you're competing, you're coming from your ego-mind or fear based mind.

You see, the whole idea that there is "not enough" is rooted in fear. This is the scarcity mindset or what my friend Julia calls the "scare-city" mindset.

And that my friend is just not the truth.

The truth is that there is more than enough for everyone.

Are you saying there isn't competition?

Well yes, there is competition, but not the way you think. The only competition you'll ever encounter, is your ego-based mind.

You see, I've had this insight around the whole idea of competition. Just think of the way you bake a pie. Everyone who has ever baked one, bakes it a different way.

Some of you may think you're pie isn't good enough, that it has too many apples, or that it isn't sweet enough. Some of you may think you're pie is too small.

And I'm going to tell you that it doesn't matter how you bake your pie. There will always be someone who will like your pie.

Do you know why?

Well it's quite simple. There will alway be someone who likes your pie because of the way you make it.

It's your special creation.

It is no secret that attending college can be expensive. Whether you have been saving up money to pay for your college tuition, or you have little money to put towards your education, it can be hard figuring out how you are going to pay your tuition bill each semester.

The good thing about college scholarships is that, unlike student loans, you won't have to pay them back after graduation. Another good thing about scholarships is there are many available to apply for-which increases your chances of being awarded one or more.

In order to apply for a college scholarship, you will likely have to fill out an application and you may even have to go through an interviewing process.

One way to increase your chances of being chosen as the recipient of a college scholarship is to thoroughly read the application before completing and submitting it. Most scholarships have stipulations on who can apply, so be sure that you meet all of the qualifications before taking the time to complete the application. Also, be sure that you fully answer each question in the application before submitting it.

If you are involved in any extracurricular activities, be sure to list them on your application. Scholarship reviewers like to see what accomplishments and awards you have received, so list all that you can think of on the application.

It is best not to use the same responses on all of your scholarship applications. The scholarship reviewers will be able to tell if you have submitted a generic application letter and will be less likely to award you the scholarship.

Take some time to think about what sets you apart from the other applicants and highlight this in your application letter. Think about what makes you unique and how you can showcase this. Singapore grants medical scholarships to Vietnam

BNP Paribas bank, in conjunction with the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) launched a programme on January 15 to present scholarships in postgraduate medical training to developing countries in south-east Asia, including Vietnam.
The bank will donate more than two billion VND to provide three-year postgraduate training courses for two Vietnamese surgeons and one scientist who choose to specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
Two scholarship winners have so far been selected, who are Vo Hoi Trung Truc from Cho Ray hospital and Do Tuong Huan from Ho Chi Minh City cancer hospital.
The programme aims to promote the sharing of knowledge and technological skills in oncology between the NCCS and hospitals in regional countries in order to improve the quality of treatment that is given to cancer sufferers.

Administrators and instructors at career schools, trade schools, and technical schools are worried too.

Conversely, online colleges and universities are seeing large enrollment growth, with no end in sight. Here are some of the reasons.

1. Online education eliminates the need for relocation. Students can live where they are and earn an online degree from a college or university hundreds of miles away.

Int'l private college to provide scholarship to Myanmar students

YANGON, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The TMC Educational Group, a Singapore-recognized international private college, will provide scholarship to Myanmar students to encourage them to pursue further study, according to the Asia Pacific Consultancy Ltd based in Yangon Sunday.
The scholarship test for English and Critical and Analytical Thinking will be carried out on Feb. 14 by the TMC, the sources said, adding that scholarship winners will be awarded 5,000 Singapore dollars each to attend the subject wise course of 2009 April intake covering journalism, mass communications, public relations, accounting and finance, international business management and marketing, logistics management., e-business and e-commerce, construction management and property, and hospitality and tourism as well as GCE "O" level.
Meanwhile, Singapore's two top universities -- the National Universities of Singapore (NUS) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) organized an educational field trip for Myanmar students, who passed the matriculation examination and GCE O-level, to study the education status of Singapore in December 2008-January 2009 to help raise their education level.
The educational field trip, introduced for the first time for Myanmar students by the two world's top universities, designated a quota of 10 students each from some 20 countries for the attendance.
Besides, in July last year, a Singapore education fair, sponsored by the education agency of RV Center, was held in Myanmar's two major cities of Yangon and Mandalay.
Moreover, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) of Singapore planned to open a branch institution in Myanmar, aiming to nurture more Myanmar experts in the future, according to an earlier report.
The move of the ITE, which stands an institution also recognized by the Singapore Education Ministry as well as the international, is being assisted by the Myanmar domestic education company.
Myanmar students, who win ITE diploma certificates, are set to join the Singapore Polytechnic School and the National University of Singapore for further pursuit of bachelor degrees with technical subject.

The case is most of us are not curiosity seekers when it gets to the human body, especially the skeletal system. Maybe the total wisdom of what the average person knows about this system, can only be published in a short phrase. Let me shift to another topic for a while. Curiosity.. We are nosey beings by nature, and prosper on reading interesting things. It doesnt matter on what matter for the most part,if there is something related to us, be it directly or indirectly, then we want to hear it. provided it is elementary and can be well made known.

Let's get back to the skeletal system. This is definitely exclusively about us, in fact it is us. . Its not up to someone else totake care of what belongs to us. The human body is not so intricate as what it seems. That statement only makes true for those that are not doing an in-depth study of the body. In those examples, yes it is complicated ,but not beyond interpreting. Its just a issue of how much knowledge is necessary for the aim we need it for. So in the event of the person that desires to go into the medical profession, he requires a lot more knowledge than the standard person who just want to take care of what he owns. Namely our body.

So not only are we going to speak about some amusing facts about your bones,we are going to study some matters that are important to our average living. Do you know that you have been losing things from your skeletal system through the days?

You have 350 bones when you just get into this planet. Now if you could glance inside yourself you would reckon around 206 or so. Thats 90 less then what you started with. You know darn well you havent had any operation that removed 90 of your bones, and you also know that you were born absolutely healthy. This truly is a secret, and now youre fascinated. Well in reality it really isnt all that much of a mystery. Many of our bones just combine together throughout our lifetime. Part of the cause this happens is so those bones combining together, can do the functions we need as adults, which we didnt require as babies.

Here is another point that may be of interest. Most of us reach our peak bone density or strength around the age of 20. So the proverb that its all down hill after 40 is misleading. Now dont let this thought demoralise you, and lead you to think that now that youre past 20 that you are past the peak of you life. It merely implies that you require to ensure you are taking care of your body. particularly your skeletal system right from that age on. Not holding back till you achieve 40 before you start considering about whats effective for your bones.

There is 1 more interesting thing. There are so many to pick out from its hard to decide which to share with you. How about those starvation diets that many of us have suffer at some point in our life. We see whatever hurt they could cause is temporary right? Not so. you are damaging your bones because they are not being nourished properly. Who knows what lasting outcomes this could have.

So a little bit of primary knowledge about the body can imply a lot of good wellness through the years. You have to admit that some of the facts we covered here were quite interesting and did raise your oddity.

If you find children during that time, most likely they are homeschooled and a parent is sure to be nearby. The librarian would also be a good person to ask if she knows of any homeschoolers. Most likely she will since they are some of her best patrons.

If you take your kids to the park during school hours, you'll probably run into at least one homeschooling family there enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. Or they might be picking up leaves for a nature book, or finding other items to use in a school project. In any case, local parks are a great place to find homeschoolers.

While shopping at the grocery store, you might find a homeschooling family. Many homeschoolers do not depend on books to teach. They rather use real life circumstances. It's likely to see homeschoolers doing comparison shopping for their math lesson at the meat freezer with their calculators.

Another place to find homeschoolers in your area is the Internet. Using one of the common search engines, try doing a search on "homeschool groups (your city)." Expand your search to include your county and then your state if that doesn't work. Surely you'll find someone close by, since there are homeschoolers in every state of the union. Don't give up on the outside chance that you don't find anyone locally. Through any number of Yahoo homeschooling groups, you can still find support online.

Don't be afraid to approach a family that you see out and about during school hours when searching for homeschooling families locally. Most homeschoolers are used to being asked why their children aren't in school. Asking questions is a great way to meet new acquaintances, and they probably won't be offended. Dealing with Homeschooling Nay-Sayers

Everyone who decides to homeschool their children will run into at least one person, maybe more, that tell them they shouldn't homeschool. The decision to homeschool, isn't an easy one to make, and often isn't popular. However, the choice in how your child is educated is entirely up to you, so you need to decide ahead of time how you will deal with homeschooling nay-sayers.

Regardless if you have a Bachelor of Arts in Education or not, one of the quintessential arguments of a homeschooling nay-sayer is that you're not qualified to teach your own child. I say poppy-cock to this argument! You have already been teaching your child since birth, if you're a parent. Why wouldn't you or your spouse be qualified to teach your child how to read or do math, if you could teach them how to talk, walk, and use the restrooms themselves?

Nay-sayers will tell you that besides being "unqualified," teaching a child is too difficult. The thought of having to teach 18-20 fiva and six year olds several subjects in one day is what I find even more difficult. Teaching one child to read is not difficult; as teaching 18-20 children is. You can do it!

If you are wanted to homeschool, another argument you might hear by nay-sayers is that children need socialization. I'm not sure I want my children to learn all the things they learn at school and I am sure you feel the same way. Not all lessons are given by the teachers but rather are learned as the result of being with other children.

95% of homeschooled children are better socialized than the children in public schools. Homeschooled children can carry on intelligent conversations with people of all ages besides being able to deal with their peers. Public schools are not true to life and create artificial societies. There isn't any time at any point in your life that you're going to deal with people all your age. It won't happen, and it just doesn't happen, either.

During the research process of homeschooling your child, there are a few comments that you will be likely to hear. It is okay if you do not know everything you're told you need to know. As you are along side your child, that that as an opportunity to learn. You want the best for your child, and you will be giving them the opportunity to concentrate on the things they are interested in learning and learn at their own pace.

Increase Your Self Esteem In 5 Steps And Stop Hating Your Body

In your quest for a better body image, you may starve yourself, spend thousands on your makeup, clothing, and hair. You may believe that if you do this, you will look better, and therefore feel better. Unfortunately, these quick fixes do not work.

It is important to realize that if you are constantly comparing yourself to others, that you will never measure up. You will never be perfect and if you are perfect, time will not allow you to stay perfect for long! ALthough feeling good about how we look is important, it should not be the sole aspect that we base our self-esteem on.

These are five tips that will help you feel better about your body image, and help to increase your self-esteem:

Accept the fact that you do not look like a model with a tiny waste and long brown hair. Accept this as being okay, and realize that you can have happy, wonderful, life without looking like this. You do not have to look like a supermodel to be happy

Try to concentrate on those beautiful and positive traits that you were naturally born with with. Please do not say that you do not have any positive traits. Even if you like your long pretty legs , keep this in mind as something that you truly love about your body.

Remember, self-esteem cannot be based on how you look. It has to be based on how you value yourself as a person for who you are inside. Looks will fade, however, you will keep becoming the best person you can be over time. Just like a fine wine!

Develop your skills and talents to the best of your ability. If you are a good writer, engage in writing on a daily basis. If you love dancing, make sure that you dance regularly and build these skills. Developing your special talents will enhance your self-esteem exponentially.

New polytechnics courses

AS THE popularity of traditional engineering courses wanes, Singapore polytechnics are rolling out programmes this year in newly popular fields such as clean energy and aeronautical engineering.
Polytechnic lecturers said interest in these disciplines is booming, in part because of the glamour of the jobs but largely because the clean energy and aerospace industries are flowering amid a bonanza of investment.
About 10,000 jobs will be created when the $60 million Seletar Aerospace Park is completed in 2018.
With heavy government investments, the clean energy industry is expected to bring Singapore $1.7 billion a year in gross domestic product and create 7,000 jobs by 2015.
The courses are drawing some of the top engineering students at the expense of programmes like electrical and mechanical engineering.

Finish College Fast Following A Few Simple Steps

Going to college and enjoying the full experience of college is a great thing for young adults. However that takes a lot of money and time that not everyone has. Some people need to finish college fast and start making some decent money as quick as possible.

Someone in the military for example who does not have the luxury to be on a campus due to the fact that they are out at sea or overseas for an extended period of time. Another example would be someone who works fulltime and is not able to stop working in order to finish a degree program.

There are other options to consider, so do not worry if one of the above scenarios or something similar is stopping you. You can still earn a degree.

Attending an online college that lets you complete your degree from a distance and on your own schedule is one of the options to think about. An online degree may let you finish your program and start working sooner then going to a traditional campus program.

However if your real goal is to finish as quick as possible and save money there are other options to consider as well. You may or may not be aware that tests exist that you can complete which may eliminate the need to complete certain college classes.

The College Level Examination Program (a.k.a. CLEP) is accepted by some colleges allowing you to earn up to 12 credit hours for every exam passed. Check with the college you are looking into as not all colleges accept CLEP exams for credits. Some colleges also use the CLEP for admissions purposes.

Some examples of the CLEP exams you can take include Accounting, American Government, American Literature, Analyzing and Interpreting Literature, and more.

Now you should be able to see that you may be able to earn a degree faster by using the CLEP exams to reduce the number of college courses you will need to take. You may also save time by using either an online college or distance learning program (assuming they accept CLEP). We all acknowledge that the digestive system is simply the procedure that our body uses to harvest the benefits of the foods we eat. Some of us have more knowledge about it than others, and that often comes from the type of training we are revealed to. It may sound simplistic to say that the reason you are having trouble right now is because you do not know how to achieve goals. Although not all problems stem from this inability, most problems can be solved with effective goal setting.

Take someone who's having trouble with their finances. They've been meaning to address it for some time, but they just never have gotten around to it. So months after they first notice the problem, they're still in the same boat, wondering why.

You must have a way to get where you are at now to where you want to be. Write down where you are at now, and then write down how you want your life to be once your goal has been achieved. Next, label every step you have to take to get to your goal. If one step seems to big, then keep breaking the step down into smaller steps.

A specific time frame is also important to achieve your goals. Goal-oriented people do not just set a time line for their ultimate goal, they also set a time frame for each individual step they have to take to reach their goal. For example, write down "July 30th, 2011" instead of "Summer 2011".

If you honestly apply just these two steps to an area of your life, you should see almost an immediate difference. Goal setting and achieving has to be a way of life, a habit, for it to be effective. And think about it, you deserve success!

Catskill, NY Mountain Thunder Motorcycle Festival 2008

Most of us know that when the first settlers came to America they where following a dream! What most do not know is that many of those dreams where inspired by paintings of the Catskill Mountains. At the beginning of this country's history artists where mesmerized by the beauty of these mountains and painted many pictures of them. These pictures where sent and sold all over the world and they had a large part in creating what later became know as the American dream.

Fast forward a couple Hundred years to September 10th through the 14th 2008 and now what draws hundreds of American Bikers every year to the Catskill Mountains is the Blackthorne Resort in East Durham and the Catskill Mountain Thunder Motorcycle Rally. This event which is a weekend get away for some and a week long party for others has just about everything a biker dreams of. Even though the Blackthorne Resorts grounds are large, they do fill up fast and Bikers reserve there Cabins, RV sites or Camp sites up to a year in advance just to make sure there is room for them on the grounds. (There are plenty of other resorts in the area who welcome the Biker overflow from the Blackthorne) Me and my Brother Mopar Tom arrived on Thursday Night and the first thing We did was to check out what seemed like a million vendors, Who where selling every thing from Motorcycle stickers to Custom Motorcycles.Then of course it was time to grab some drinks. First drink was at the Tikki Bar by the large in ground pool. The Second was at the Blackthorne's on premise full service bar. Not wanting to over do it on my first night there (I would save that for my second night) I called it an early night at around 2am and was off to get some sleep.

On Friday the fuse was lit and the weekend festivities got into full swing. I spent the day wandering around the Blackthorne checking ever thing out drinking and partying with Hundreds of new and old friends. As the sun went down and the Night began things just got better! I watched Bikers take their Motorcycles up in the air and do Ariel Burn outs as I listened to the Music of Molly Hatchet LIVE !

The Nights at Blackthorne Run late and the Mornings come early! Some Choose to start their days off riding around the incredible Catskill Mountains, either in a group on a guided tour or by themselves with no destination at all. The roads in the Catskills go on forever and even after many years of riding them each trip still offers something new ! My favorite spot to ride to has been for many years Nicks Waterfall House in Gilboa, In my opinion no ride threw the Catskills is Complete with out a big burger and a cold beer at Nicks!

Others who don't wake till the afternoon can spend their day's at the Blackthorne checking out the vendors buying new Biker gear, Watching Rhett Rotten and his amazing vintage Wall of Death Motorcycle stunt show, Looking at the art work of Ron Finch, Placing their votes for their favorites in the Bike show, participating in the Bike games or enjoying a list of many other wickedly fun Biker activities. Saturday Night again offered Bikers more then they could handle plus Hot Female Spaghetti Wrestling, Live Ultimate Fighting bouts, Lots more live music and plenty of late night partying. On Sunday some Bikers headed home while others hung around for another day of fun including a pig roast!

I have been a biker all my life and to this day the bond of Brotherhood that is shared by bikers still amazes me. I'm not sure if the fact that the Blackthorne is a family resort every other week of the year has anything to do with it, But I found the feeling of Brotherhood and Family to be very strong at this event. When I can hangout and party with Bikers I have just met and feel like I have known them for Twenty years, It strongly reinforces all the reasons I love being a Biker!

I have left out a lot of great things about the Blackthorne and its Catskill Mountain Thunder Motorcycle Rally, The reason for this is because if you missed this event you do not deserve to know all its secrets until you have attended it for yourself !!! How Does The Endocrine System Really Work?

I dont know of anybody, that has not met somebody that has been marked as paraniod. If things is going on with an person and we cant explain it, we just say, oh they are being moody. This does not just pop out from anywhere, it must come from somewhere. That somewhere could very well be the endocrine system. This system is answerable for a lot of what goes on in our bodies. Its health is critical, to our over all well being. If this system is not running the way it should ,then it does not matter how good the rest of the organs are performing.

The endocrine system looks like a scary subject. Most of us really do not really care toacquirea lot about it. But isnt it a little unfair to judge someone as being just plain moody, without taking the time to visualize just a little bit ,of what could be going on. Dont get me wrong, i did not mean that the endocrine system is the one that are causing everyone's awful moods, because the temper can be stimulated by other things too. What I am saying is, hearing more about our bodies won't make us lose anything right? I mean, lets acknowledge it, we have all been a little emotional from time to time. The problem is often we believe that this is a behavior that can be turned on and off, so we tend to snap back at a emotional individual.

The endocrine system is liable for discharging internal secretions. Its these internal secretions that move about our bodies doing all kinds of different tasks. The female internal secretions for illustration, can play a big role in the mood swings of a woman during, before, and after her menstrual cycles. So thats the explaination us ladies can use, so where does that leave the men? I mean they dont have the female internal secretions bubbling all over the place. what would their excuse be for being cranky? Just the same thing, only its the male internal secretions.

Even in todays growth in medical research, there is yet much disputation considering the results that the male and female hormones have on a persons mood. Yet I think that married pairs, will be more liable to agree with the theory, that they make. Married Men have get to the point ,where they recognize ,that theres in all likelihood going to be a few days every calendar month that the wife isnt so nice. Its almost as though the male population has accepted this as a regular happening. Yet women dont leave the men the same thoughtfulness. When our men are irritable we very seldom would still see it being hormone related.

So basically if we all had a little better reading of how the endocrine system operated it might make a huge difference in how we treat, feel and perceive others. Maybe then, we would not take the mood swings of others rather so personal. You never know, perhaps then we may not be rather so defensive, which could mean less quarrels. That would surely be advantageous to a lot of relationships, not exclusively between married pairs, but kids, family and friends as well.

Its an fascinating opinion, to imagine that we could make a much better impact on our everyday lives, just by knowing a little more about the human body.

Difference in Intent

One difference in the two tests is in the intent. The main intent of the TOEFL is to determine whether or not the test taker can speak, read, understand, and write English well enough to attend college in an English-speaking program. The Structure of the IELTS

The highest possible score is a 9 band score, which means the individual is completely competent in all tested areas.

The Listening and Speaking Modules are the same for both the academic and general versions of the exam, but the Reading and Writing Modules are not. The test takes 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete. The Listening, Reading, and Writing Modules must be completed in that order on the same day without a break. The Speaking Module can be completed within a week prior to or following the written portion of the test.

The Structure of the TOEFL

The TOEFL can be taken online or at a testing center. When taken online, the applicant has four hours to complete the Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing sections of the test. Each section has its own time limit. The paper-based test is similar in structure. However, it has a structure and written expression section rather than a speaking section. Beamed Energy Propulsion or, in brief, BEP, is a part of rocket science. However, you dont need to be a rocket scientist to get its idea, it is very simple, and I will explain it to you in the next several paragraphs.

The essence of rocket science is the principle of reactive motion. Cars on the highway are pushing pavement and move against it, swimmer pushes with his limbs (or fins) the water, and swims. Space has nothing to push from, because space is empty. So rocket pushes off its own exhaust formed by burning hydrogen with oxygen. Of course, since the space is a vacuum, everything (fuel, burner, tanks, cryogenics, combustion chamber) must be carried onboard.

With everything needed for reactive motion stuffed onboard, rockets have very little room for cargo, and this room gets very expensive. Literally, the major loads that rockets are carrying are their engines and fuel. If one could find a way to provide energy for rocket motion from outside, there will be no need to carry all that heavy parts: like oxidizer, cryogenics, tanks, lines, etc., and the gain in rocket efficiency will be enormous!

Energy can be delivered to the rocket from remote external source using light or, say, laser, x-ray, microwave high-power beams. With its mirrors, rocket will collect and focus that beams on its "fuel". Any solid matter can be a fuel. When high-power beam of photons is focused on a solid material, the material evaporates and ionizes instantaneously. The energy density in focused high-power beam exceeds hundreds to millions times one in the heat of burning hydrogen. Thus, beam-driven rocket will remain a rocket, it will be pushing from its own exhaust, but the energy of this exhaust is much higher, and the rocket itself is much lighter, comparing to hydrogen burners.

In conclusion, as the awareness on bogus degrees increases amongst prospective employers, degrees obtained through a legitimate avenue of education can sometimes be mistaken for bogus online bachelor degrees too. South Korean government to provide schorlarship to Myanmar Students

YANGON, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The South Korean government will provide scholarship to Myanmar pre-graduate students to help nurture them and promote bilateral ties between the two countries, the local weekly journal Pyi-Myanmar reported Tuesday.
The 2009 Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) will effect 150 pre-graduate students from 72 countries, including five from Myanmar, the report said, adding that the application will close on Jan. 30.
The scholarship-winning students are set to major scientific and technological subjects at the National Institute for International Education (NIED) in South Korea.
Meanwhile, the 6th Korean language speech contest was held in the country's former capital of Yangon last month, covering that on four skills and the winners were with scholarship.
Myanmar and South Korea have been stepping up cooperation in the education sector with the Department of Education of Chonnam National University of South Korea offering to conduct Korean language course, testing of the language, compilation and distribution of Myanmar-Korean language dictionary among others.
Under a memorandum of understanding, the South Korean university offers Korean language and business management courses, taught by Korean instructors, and graduate students are arranged to further study in South Korea to acquire master degrees, advance diplomas and higher certifications.
Earlier in 2006, a technology, culture and business education center was jointly established in Myanmar by the South Korean university and the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

You Are Here (and how to get over THERE)

Yesterday I drove into Austin and met with the staff who run my coaching and mentoring programs.
I had some exciting news to share with them, and some astonishing news arrived while I was there.
In the morning The Today Show called, wanting information on my forthcoming book.
That's pretty big, but not as big as the news that came later.
At lunch I handed out the recently completed bibliography of my life's work so far -- 45 pages of books, e-books, audios, videos, software, fitness formulas, and more -- an entire listing of everything I've created up to now. The heft of the document alone impressed even me.
But that wasn't the biggest news of the day, either.
At lunch with the staff, I stood up and told them something that I felt inspired to share.
I put a dot on the whiteboard on the wall and circled it.
"You are here," I said.
I told them the whiteboard is like the map at the mall where all the stores are listed and a little box says "You are here" to give you your bearings.
"Where do you want to go from here?" I asked.
"Up," someone said.
"Off the whiteboard itself," someone else said.
"This is all good," I went on. "You all want to move up. You want more sales, more results, more wealth. Right?"
They all agreed.
I then put another dot on the board, way up at the top of it, and circled it.
"That represents where you want to go," I said.
I then asked the key question, "How do you go from where you are to where you want to be?"
They were quiet for a moment, but then began saying things like "Take a straight line," and "Do one thing at a time," and "Make more sales calls," and so on.
"That's all good," I said. "Those are all practical answers. But I want you to think in terms of the movie The Secret and my book."
I added, "I'm going to tell you what I think is the greatest secret to manifesting whatever you want."
They were quiet, not sure where I was going with all this.
"Does anyone want to know what the secret is?" I asked.
They all burst out laughing. They definitely wanted to know.
I pointed at the little "You are here" dot and said, "The secret to getting what you want is to totally appreciate this moment. When you are grateful for this moment, then whatever is next for you will bubble up out of this moment. You'll be inspired to take action of some sort. That will lead you up. But the only way to get to the upper dot is to live in this dot with gratitude."
They've all heard this before, but I wanted them to truly get it.
I then told them about my Maui friend who says my favorite line these days: "I'm totally satisfied, I just want more."
That's the key to success, I explained.
It's wanting more without needing more.
I went on and on about being grateful, and how it leads to that upward climb. Most of us aren't happy right now, thinking we will be happy when we get to that other dot. But the great joke is that when you get to the other dot, you won't be happy. You'll be looking for another dot on the map. You'll use unhappiness to whip yourself forward. The thing is, it doesn't have to be that way.
Just be happy now.
Out of this now will come the miracles you seek.
The group got the message. They shook my hand. Smiled. Showed light in their eyes. Walked away with a spring in their step.
Now here's the really juicy part.
I got a phone call right after that meeting. It was Suzanne, my assistant. She almost never calls me, and she knew I was in a meeting. So I knew this call had to be important.
I took the call and to my delight I learned that Oprah's people wanted my media kit.
And they wanted it by midnight.
Oprah's folks are considering me as a guest for a show.
Oprah!
Now get this: I was happy in the moment. As I'm happy, the next moment brings it's own rewards. As I'm happy in that moment, it too gives birth to more joy.
You can do this, too. You may not have Oprah call you, but you will get what is right for you. I explain all of this in the book, Zero Limits. But the essence of the message is this:
All you have to do is embrace the dot that says "You are here" and do what it tells you to do.
And when the phone rings, answer it!

We all know that it is better to give than receive; what we may not really understand is why this is the case. It's simple, really - the more you give of yourself, the more you will receive. When you give freely and unconditionally, success and abundance will be your reward.

An unconditional giver is someone who gives from the heart because they want to, not because they have to, or because they feel obligated to do so.

When you give unconditionally, you are putting the law of giving and receiving into action and will reap the benefits by drawing abundance and success to yourself.

The universal Law of Giving and Receiving is both spiritual and scientific.

The Spiritual basis of The Law of Giving and Receiving: Whatever you sow, you will also reap. -Galatians 6:7

The Scientific basis of The Law of Giving and Receiving: For every action, there will always be an equal or even opposite reaction -Isaac Newton's Law of Motion.

Reasons People Resist Giving: A lot of people will not give because they fear losing what they have; this is a feeling which comes from a sense of scarcity which is often not warranted by their circumstances.

As we see from the spiritual reasoning behind this universal law, you cannot reap what has not been sown.

The scientific reasoning is that there cannot be a reaction where there has been no action.

The person that decides not to give for fear of lack or fear of loss, will never gain or grow, but will always remain stagnate, keeping only what they already have and never realizing anything more.

There are those that give a little because they fear if they give too much there won't be enough left. Again, this comes from limited thinking and perceptions of lack and scarcity. The person that gives a little will only receive a little.

Some people understand the basic principle of giving and receiving and simply give to get. This is a perversion of the Law of Giving and Receiving.

Those who give with selfish motives will learn the hard way that intentions matter with regard to the law of giving and receiving; it is as immutable as are other natural laws.

Start Giving From the Heart: When you implement the Law of Giving and Receiving in your daily life, you immediately experience a liberating awareness of abundance. You realize that you can give freely without fear of ever over extending yourself or experiencing lack and scarcity.

When you give unconditionally, you will start to see yourself in others and develop a deeper sense of empathy. You will learn to love others as you love yourself; it's a truly spiritual experience.

You'll be able to get in touch with what others need which will teach you to give of yourself freely and with out conditions or expectations.

Your giving will inspire others to follow suit, setting off a self-sustaining cycle of giving.

Giving Produces Spiritual and Personal Growth: When you give unconditionally you build faith in yourself, in others and the entire world. Some describe it as a religious experience; it is certainly a spiritual feeling.

The more you can unconditionally give, the more you will receive. You will receive joy, love and a feeling of accomplishment.
